What would you do if you did not receive anything for Christmas?
What if you decided to spend absolutely no money on Christmas gifts? Would Christmas still be a special time? For my religious readers: Would Christmas still be a celebration of the birth of Jesus if you did not buy your husband a sweater he probably won't wear? I know that it is so much fun to go out and buy someone a special gift. It can be stressful but you do it because you want to show the people you care about how much you love them. You want your children to feel like they matter in your life by giving them the things they ask for. When I say take the business out of Christmas I do not mean don't give gifts. I mean do not make Christmas about buying things and receiving things. Make sure Christmas is about something deeper. It does not have to be religious but I hope that it is about making memories with the people you love that does not center around buying stuff.
