Blogmas Day 17: What happened when I learned to listen better.

Since we started working with Honey Baked we have made deliveries to other towns over our typical delivery radius.
With each delivery we would have to look up the location and measure the per mile delivery fee. After that was done I had to check back in and make sure the amount was approved.  When the owner started to run the store he made a suggestion that helped me make more money every since.
Not long ago I had a delivery request from Honey Baked Ham.
Rollin often delivers catering for them and on holidays we deliver turkeys and hams to their customers.

The owner, let's call him Nader.(Because that's his name. lol) let me know that he would love to keep working with Rollin but he needed set pricing for the areas we would deliver to.
He said he could then just set the amount for his customers and, in store employees would also be able to reference the price even when customers did not order online.
I got busy and made a chart of pricing for out of area deliveries, with the exception that if the mileage greatly exceeded the amount, it would be adjusted as needed.
I also posted the pricing on the website to be ordered by other clients.
Because I listened and tried the advice, other companies have seen the set price and used Rollin's out of the box pricing for their delivery. A local construction service, a company out of South Carolina who needed a delivery from Salisbury to Clemmons and a medical device manufacturer have all gave the new pricing a spin.
The reason is, people like to know exactly what they are getting, and how much it will cost without all the wait time.
It is not that I had not read this principle about pricing before, it is just that I had not listened with my business ears and applied it.
What are your clients telling you they want.
It pays to listen.
