![]() If only I had the wisdom I have now back in my younger days. As time marches on I have given a lot of thought to where I would prefer to live in the after-retirement years of my life. Life does not always happen as planned but, I still plan anyway just in case. These tips are on my list, and they may be helpful to you as well. More to Read... ![]() Rollin runs errands for older clients every day. We have learned so much from them about aging and what is required to stay at home as the years go by. With years in the medical profession as a Certified Nursing Assistant I also picked up information about aging at home. 1. Recruit help in as many ways as possible. Rollin helps our clients with errands outside of the home. For other things our clients call on family, friends, church organizations and community outreach services. Using all of these resources together creates a net of support that allows older clients to get everything done. 2. Reduce your responsibilities. This option is out of reach to some people. But if you can, try and shrink the social, financial and emotional drains in your life. This is good advice for any time in your life but as you age it is great to do. The way this helps you stay home longer is by not overexerting your life mentally and financially over time. Don't stop doing everything. Continue to focus on a few select areas that add value to your life and not stress. For many organizations you can stay involved but change your role to a less stressful one. 3. Barter. (Exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money.) As I mentioned above, if only I the wisdom I have now that I am older. Share your wisdom and use your special skills to barter in the areas you need help. This idea may seem a little weird in today's world. Rollin has crafters that use our services. These artists have made items for birthdays, Christmas and bereavement in exchange for services. They provided stationary, food and decorative items and we paid for them by providing service. Maybe you are an artist, accountant, writer, etc... Offer your service from wherever you are as a barter system and directly get the things you need with a lot less effort. Just make sure both parties have clear rules in place. Let me know in the comments some things that have helped you stay in your home as you age or as a loved one you are taking care of ages. Rollin is a refreshing and personalized choose if you or a loved one needs options to help stay at home longer as you age. We can be of great assistance along with in home care and various community organizations. Our clients call on us as they need us and a regularly scheduled basis.
