The Pursuit of Perfect!

Have you ever started something that should have taken about 30 minutes and 3 hours later you are still working on it? I am a victim of this time monster. I have to fight it on a daily basis. My problem, as yours may be, is the distraction of perfectionisim. Now it is not that I can actually make anything "perfect" but that when I start a task it is hard for me to see it as finished. Fact is, most things will never be "perfect". Think about it....
  • As soon as you clean your home it gets dirty all over again.
  • Right after you finish your project,  it is time to revise it.
There is no perfect. Focus on done.
I do not mean to give the world another slice of mediocrity. But do what you know how to do in a reasonable amount of time and then pronouce it finished. If it needs improvement after you have presented it, then work on it as you go.
If you are making nuclear weapons or writing genetic code, you probably need to get pretty close to perfect. But the rest of us. We just need to finish.

P.S. Sometimes perfectionism parades as procrastination and vice versa. Recognize when you are delaying something because you think you can not make it perfect. And repeat after me.... "Done is better than perfect."
