How to avoid Election arguments.

The hot button topic right now is the election. And rightfully so. The election of the person that will lead this powerful country is important. Yet I find myself not wanting to constantly talk about Hilary and Donald and I most definitely do not want to argue about my political decisions.

Now some folks really enjoy the political argument and want to convince a vote in favor of their choice. Conversation is fine, between people who are making valid points and can even be enjoyable. But when people get pushy and insulting, it is time to turn the conversation around or off.

Here are the statements I use to head off a political conversation that is not going the way I want it to.

1, "Aren't you glad we live in a country where at least we have a voice in the process" This response is my happy come back to the angry political. I often repeat it a couple of times until they get the point.

2. "I don't talk politics".  This response sometimes starts a lecture about why I should talk politics. That is exactly what I want. My next response is "I don't talk politics but I do participate in the process and make my decisions on the research I have done on the topics that are important to me." Silence

Try either of these to find your way out of a long drawn out conversation. If you get in the mood to talk about politics then just remember, everyone has a reason for defending the candidate of their choice. Whatever the reason is. Even if you believe it is a lie. It is still everyone's right to believe and vote how they feel.

I respect people who take up the cause and work for their candidate. It takes a lot of guts and determination.
